🇺🇸Iowa caucus app shitstorm
The Iowa Democratic Caucus stalled for over a day due to a malfunctioning voting app, leading an awkward moment where a candidate declared victory before he found out he wasn’t the winner. Read through @rabble’s tweetstorm for a deep dive on how this project got so messed up.
💸Instagram & YouTube Good, Casper Bad
The Big Cos announced their Q4 earnings and it wasn’t great, but we got a glimpse into Instagram and YouTube, perhaps the two greatest acquisitions in the tech industry. Both have seen 100x+ return on what seemed like absurdly high acquisition prices. Holy moly!
While we’re talking about public markets, Casper had its disappointing IPO and people are up and arms about DTC as expected.
🔥Burning money on Super Bowl ads
Commercial spots during the Super Bowl are really expensive, yet the folks at Quibi thought it would be a good idea to shell out the money even though they haven’t launched the product yet. Crying thinking about all the App Store searches that were left unconverted 😭
While we’re here, it’s worth highlighting the PornHub usage analysis that gets done after every Super Bowl.
😂More hilarious dunking on VCs than usual
Tech Twitter is no stranger to dunking on VCs, but this week, it was extra entertaining. Cyan Banister, long-time partner at Founders Fund impersonated a number of VCs in an incredible tweet storm (click in):
A couple “operators” also had some hilarious comments on the industry.
